This page lists every cookie and similar technology that runs on aisleoak.com, who sets it, and what it is for. It was written by loading the site in a clean browser and recording what actually happened. Every lifetime below is the real expiry read from the cookie, rounded to the day. If you find something here that no longer matches the site, email hello@aisleoak.com and we will correct it.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. Some are needed for the site to work at all. They remember what is in your cart and keep you signed in. Others measure how the site is used, or tell an advertising network that you visited. That difference matters, so they are separated below.
Strictly necessary
These cannot be turned off without breaking the store. All three last 365 days.
| Name | Set by | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| _shopify_essential | Shopify | Keeps your session and your cart. Without it, checkout cannot work. |
| localization | Shopify | Remembers that you are shopping in the United States. |
| _shop_app_essential | Shopify, on shop.app | Supports the Shop Pay and Shop login panel. This panel is built into Shopify's checkout and account menu, so this cookie is set on ordinary pages too, not only during checkout. |
Analytics
These measure how the site is used. They are not needed for you to buy anything.
| Name | Set by | Lasts | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| _shopify_analytics | Shopify | 365 days | Counts visits and pages viewed, and links them into one session. |
| _ga | Google Analytics 4 | 400 days | Assigns your browser a random identifier so repeat visits are counted as one person. |
| _ga_YR1FL4RRWD | Google Analytics 4 | 400 days | Holds the state of your current visit for the same property. |
Google Analytics receives the page address, the page title, your screen size, your language and a scroll-depth measurement. Google derives an approximate location from your IP address at its end.
Advertising
| Name | Set by | Lasts | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| _shopify_marketing | Shopify | 365 days | Records which advertisement or link brought you here, so a later purchase can be credited to it. |
| _fbp | Meta Pixel | 90 days | Identifies your browser to Meta so a later visit can be connected to this one. |
| fr | Meta, on facebook.com | 90 days | Meta's own advertising cookie, used to match you across sites that carry their pixel. |
The Meta Pixel reports the page you are on, its title and description, and the referring page. Shopify is also configured to send these events to Meta directly from its servers, which means a browser extension that blocks the pixel does not stop them.
Technologies that are not cookies
- Browser storage. The site keeps a few values in your browser's own storage. These include the site you arrived from, the state of the Shop login panel, a record of the pages you viewed in this tab, and a short string describing your privacy region. They stay on your device.
- Error and performance reporting. The Shop Pay panel includes crash reporting that assigns your device an identifier. Shopify also records page-performance measurements.
- Checkout prefetching. The site asks your browser to download checkout files in advance so checkout opens quickly. Nothing about you is sent.
Who the third parties are
Besides Shopify, which runs this store, three companies receive something:
- Google: Analytics, as described above.
- Meta: the Facebook and Instagram pixel, and the server-side equivalent.
- Judge.me: the app that collects product reviews. Its script loads on every page and it is registered to receive a page-view event. At present there are no reviews on this store and no review widget is displayed, so it makes no onward request.
The typeface used on this site is served from this store's own content network rather than from Google Fonts, so loading a page does not send your address to Google for that purpose.
There is no session recording, no heatmap, no A/B testing tool, no email or SMS pop-up service and no affiliate tracking on this site. Shopify's theme ships a chat component in the page markup, and it is dormant: it is never defined, it renders nothing and it contacts nothing. If we ever switch it on, this page says so first.
How to refuse
- Opt out of data sharing for advertising. Use Your Privacy Choices. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal then, depending on where you are, we treat that as a request to opt out.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser. Every browser can block third-party cookies and clear what is already stored. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will stop checkout from working.
- Opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on, available from Google directly.
- Change what Meta shows you in the ad settings of your Facebook or Instagram account.
- Ask us. Email hello@aisleoak.com and we will tell you what we hold and delete it on request.
Changes
If we add or remove a tool that sets cookies, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it.
